Birding on the River

Sittee River, Hopkins

In Belize, an impressive 612 bird species have been documented, with around 20 percent being migratory visitors from North America. Some of these birds are just passing through, and each year, new species are discovered. In 2007, eight new species were recorded, including the Crested Caracara, Canada Goose, and Spot-breasted Oriole.

The country's diverse landscapes, including tropical forests, savannahs, numerous cayes, wetlands, and coastal plains, provide rich habitats for a wide variety of bird species. Nearly half of Belize's land and surrounding waters are safeguarded by forest reserves, marine reserves, wildlife sanctuaries, national parks, and other designated protected areas. With English as the official language, international visitors can easily communicate with local guides.

Our guided Birding Tours along the Sittee River and its surrounding areas provide a unique opportunity to observe a diverse array of bird species in their natural habitat. Capture the beauty of indigenous and migratory birds against the backdrop of lush landscapes. Whether you're a seasoned birder or a casual observer, our River Birding tours cater to all levels of interest.
